The Evolve 1 Gang 3 Pole Fan Isolator Switch in Satin Brass is a specialist switch designed specifically for extractor fans in bathrooms, kitchens, and utility rooms. A standard light switch breaks only the live wire, but a 3 pole isolator disconnects live, neutral, and the permanent live (often used for fan overrun timers). This ensures the fan is completely isolated from all electrical supplies – essential for safe cleaning, maintenance, or replacement. The switch allows you to turn off the fan without affecting the room lighting, and its 10A rating is more than sufficient for domestic extractor fans. Finished in warm, brushed satin brass, this isolator switch blends safety requirements with sophisticated design.
Measuring H:86mm x W:86mm, this compact unit fits a standard single gang back box – and remarkably, it fits a 25mm shallow box, making it ideal for retrofit projects where wall depth is limited. The screwless clip-on faceplate creates a flush, seamless look, while the satin brass finish resists moisture-related tarnishing better than many metals (though it should not be installed inside a shower enclosure). Whether you are fitting a new bathroom, upgrading a kitchen extractor, or simply replacing a worn white plastic isolator, this Evolve switch offers compliance, convenience, and contemporary style.
Choosing this Evolve fan isolator means you can finally replace that cheap, yellowing plastic switch on your bathroom wall with a premium satin brass finish that matches the rest of your Evolve accessories. The 3 pole switching is not a luxury – it is a requirement of UK wiring regulations (BS 7671) for extractor fans with timer overrun functions, ensuring the fan can be fully isolated for maintenance without cutting power to the lighting circuit. The ability to fit a 25mm back box is a huge advantage in solid walls or tiled bathrooms where deeper boxes are difficult to install. For homeowners, landlords, or electricians who insist on both regulatory compliance and beautiful design, this isolator switch is the perfect, discreet solution.

1. Why do I need a 3 pole isolator for my extractor fan?
Many modern extractor fans have a timer overrun – they continue running for a few minutes after you turn off the light. These fans require a permanent live supply for the timer, in addition to the switched live and neutral. A 3 pole isolator disconnects all three for safe maintenance. UK regulations (BS 7671) require a local isolator for all fans with timers.
2. Can I use this switch for a standard (non-timer) fan?
Yes. For a simple fan without timer (only live, neutral, and earth), you will only use two poles of the switch. The third pole remains unused. This is perfectly acceptable.
3. Will this switch fit where my old fan isolator was?
Most likely yes. This unit fits a standard single gang back box (86mm wide) and requires only 25mm depth. Many older isolators need 35mm or deeper. If your existing box is 25mm or more, it will fit. If shallower, you may need to replace the box.
4. Is the satin brass finish safe in a bathroom?
Yes, but with precautions. The switch should be installed in Bathroom Zone 2 or 3 (outside the 0.6m radius of a bath or shower). It should not be installed inside Zone 1 (above bath or shower) or where it can be directly splashed. It is not IP rated for wet areas – use a pull-cord switch inside shower rooms instead.
5. Can I use this isolator for a heat recovery ventilation (HRV) unit?
Yes, provided the HRV unit draws 10A or less. Most domestic HRV units are well within this limit. The 3 pole isolation is ideal because HRV units often have multiple control circuits. However, check your unit’s manual and consult an electrician for confirmation.
